Costa Head wave project
SSE Renewables has been awarded exclusive rights to develop Costa Head, a 200MW wave energy site located north of mainland Orkney in The Crown Estate’s Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters Strategic Area. The award is part of part of the world’s first commercial leasing programme for wave and tidal energy generation projects, undertaken by The Crown Estate.
Located north of Costa Head the site could generate enough electricity to power around 180,000 homes.
SSE will now work closely with statutory bodies, local communities and The Crown Estate to develop the site prior to bringing forward an application
