As the licensed electricity transmission company for the north of Scotland, Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Ltd (SHETL), a subsidiary of Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE), is required to ensure there is sufficient electricity network capacity for those seeking to generate renewable energy in the north of Scotland.

Over the coming months SHETL will be undertaking a programme of refurbishment works for phase 1 of the existing Beauly to Blackhillock electricity transmission line, including the replacement of the existing conductors (wires) with modern conductors.

Work will be ongoing at various stages of the line over the coming months but it should be noted that the voltage of the line will remain unchanged, no additional towers will be erected, there will be no increase in the height of existing towers and the new conductors will look the same as the existing ones from ground level.

Foundation and ground investigation works have commenced. The new conductor stringing will be carried out from April 2010 onwards and is expected to be completed by October 2010.

While every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum, we appreciate that this work may have an impact on local residents. Over the coming months we will ensure that we communicate with them regarding any work that is going on in their area.
