Kintyre wind farm
SSE Renewables, was granted exclusivity by the Crown Estate in February 2009 to develop two offshore wind farms on the west coast of Scotland. The sites for development are Kintyre, which is located 2km off the Atlantic coast on Kintyre, due west of Machrihanish, and Islay, which is located 13km off the west coast of Islay. For more information about the Islay site, please refer to the Islay web page.
The Kintyre offshore wind farm is a proposal for a 378MW, 105 wind turbine development which would cover approximately 70 square kilometres. We aim to submit an application for statutory consent early in 2012.
We held public exhibitions in Campbelltown and Macrihanish on 5 and 6 August 2010. These gave local communities the opportunity to learn more about the proposal, ask any questions and feed into the project at this early stage of development.
Please refer to the documents below for more information about the project, including the August exhibition materials.
