Graduate Development Programme
We are looking for talented graduates from engineering and business disciplines to join our Graduate Programme. We have opportunities for graduates to join our Generation, Renewables, Power Systems, Major Projects, Energy Supply businesses.
Our Graduate Programme lasts for two years and will give you the opportunity to experience a diverse range of business areas, allowing you to develop a broader understanding of SSE's activities. Join us and you will be supported in your professional development and be assigned a mentor for the duration of the programme.
Engineering Graduates
We have opportunities for engineering graduates to join our Generation, Power Distribution, Major Projects and Renewables divisions. Candidates will have a minimum of a 2:1 degree in a relevant engineering subject.
Generation
Our Generation business is the UK's second largest generation business, with an ownership interest in over 100 thermal and renewable power stations, with a total capacity of over 11,000MW. We are the UK's largest generator of electricity from renewable sources, owning and operating almost half of the UK's total renewable generation capacity.
We have opportunities in Yorkshire, Cheshire, Kent, Aberdeenshire and Perthshire. You will travel to placements across the UK over the two year programme.
Power Systems
Our Power Systems business distributes electricity to 3.5 million homes and businesses across one third of the UK's total land area through a network of 127,000 kilometres of underground cables and overhead lines. It's core purpose is to ensure the communities we serve have a safe and reliable supply of electricity, and to ensure we do everything we can to restore supplies as quickly as possible following interruptions.
We have opportunities in Perth and Reading.
Major Projects
Our Major Projects team is a focussed delivery group responsible for delivering a wide range of construction projects within the UK. You will work within the team that is currently involved in a number of key transmission projects across Scotland, which are at various stages of the design process. We have opportunities to join the team in Perth.
SSE Renewables
SSE Renewables is responsible for the development of onshore and offshore wind farms in the UK, Ireland, and Europe, as well as developing hydro and marine projects. We are looking for graduates who can contribute to the ongoing development of the company's goals.
We have opportunities in the UK and Ireland, with significant travel required throughout Europe for the duration of the programme.
Business Graduates
We have opportunities for business studies, economics and maths graduates to join our Energy Supply graduate programme. Candidates will have a minimum of a 2:1 and be willing to travel throughout the UK for the programme.
Energy Supply
Our Energy Supply business is responsible for exceeding the expectations of our growing customer base. From developing new businesses and technologies, to trading electricity and gas to ensure best value for our customers, this is a diverse and challenging business area. Placements will include; Energy Trading, Energy Services, Sales, and Marketing.
We have opportunities in Perth and Reading.

Undergraduate Summer placements
We offer paid summer placements across a wide range of our businesses. Candidates will ideally be in the penultimate year of their degree in a relevant engineering or business discipline, and be on course for a minimum 2:1 degree. Placements will be based across the UK for 10 weeks during summer 2010.
