What are the roles?

We are looking for talented graduates from engineering and business disciplines to join our Graduate Programme.  We have opportunities for graduates to join our Generation, Airtricity, Power Systems, Energy Services, Customer Services, IT and Energy Supply businesses.  We also have opportunities within our Corporate Services.

For all areas, our Graduate Programme is a two year programme which will give you the opportunity to experience a diverse range of business areas, allowing you to develop a broader understanding of SSE's activities.  Join us and you will be supported in your professional development and be assigned a mentor for the duration of the programme.

What qualifications or experience do I need?

You will have a 2:1 or better, however we may consider candidates with a 2:2 for non engineering roles.

How do these roles fit within the Group?

Generation

Our Generation business is the UK's second largest generation business, with an ownership interest in over 100 thermal and renewable power stations, with a total capacity of over 10,000MW.  We are also the UK's largest generator of electricity from renewable sources, owning and operating almost half of the UK's total renewable generation capacity.

We are looking for graduates with degrees in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Control and Instrumentation.

Power Systems

Our Power Systems business distributes electricity to 3.5 million homes and businesses across one third of the UK's total land area through a network of 127,000 kilometres of underground cables and overhead lines.  One of our principles of responsibility is to ensure the communities we serve have a safe and reliable supply of electricity, and that we ensure we do everything we can to restore supplies as quickly as possible following interruptions.

We are looking for graduates with degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering or similar.

Energy Services

Our Energy Services business provides a comprehensive range of products and 'beyond the meter' services to public sector, industrial and commercial organisations and the domestic market throughout the UK and Ireland.  The broad offering embraces renewable, sustainable and energy efficient products and is supported by innovative financial packages and our well established contracting, trading and retail operations.

We are looking for graduates with degrees in general Business, Management and Economics.  Engineering and degrees of other relevant disciplines will also be considered.

Customer Services

We supply electricity and gas to over 8 million homes and businesses throughout Britain providing award-winning customer service through our UK-based Customer Service Centres.

We are looking for graduates with Business, Finance or Management degrees to join our Customer Services development programme.

IT

Our IT division supports each of our functions and is required to be effective in meeting the business' needs.

We are seeking graduates with Maths, Engineering or Computing degrees to work within both technical and business aspects of systems development and support.

Energy Supply

Our Energy Supply business is responsible for exceeding the expectations of our growing customer base.  From developing new businesses and technologies, to trading electricity and gas to ensure best value for our customers, this is a diverse and challenging business area.

We are looking for graudates with degrees in general Business, Management and Economics.  Engineering and degrees of other relevant disciplines will also be considered.

Where are these roles located?

Generation

We have opportunities for Electrical, Mechanical, and Control and Instrumentation graduates in the following locations:

  • Engineering Support Centre: Perth or Yorkshire
  • Ferrybridge Power Station, Yorkshire
  • Fiddler's Ferry Power Station, Cheshire
  • Keadby Power Station, Yorkshire
  • Medway Power Station, Kent
  • Peterhead Power Station, Aberdeenshire
  • Renewable Generation, Perth

Power Systems

We have opportunities for Electrical Engineering graduates in Perth and Reading.

Energy Services

We are looking for Business and Engineering graduates to be based either in Perth or Reading.

Customer Services

We have opportunities for Business, Finance and Management graduates based in Basingstoke.

IT

We are looking for IT graduates to be based in Havant, Hampshire

Energy Supply

We have opportunities for Business graduates with analytical and innovation skills in Perth and Reading.

What salary and benefits would I receive?
