What are the roles?
We have opportunities for people to join our Power Distribution business as a Craft Trainee. Opportunities exist for Linespersons, Cable Jointers and Electrical and Mechanical Fitters.
Trainee Linesperson / Cable Jointer
Your role would be as part of a team involved in the refurbishment, maintenance and repair of overhead lines and underground cables. Your training will take place over two years and would involve a combination of work based learning and formal qualifications.
Trainee Electrical / Mechanical Fitter
As part of a team, you would be involved in the maintenance and repair of high voltage transformers, circuit breakers and switchgear. Your training would take place over two years and would involve a combination of work based learning and formal qualifications.
On successful completion of training, a position would be allocated to you in which you may be required to participate in 'stand by' duties, providing out of hours assistance with network and equipment repairs.
What qualifications or experience do I need?
All successful candidates will:
Have a minimum of Standard Grade / GCSE or equivalent in English and Mathematics
Possess good technical and problem solving skills
Ideally have previous technical or industrial work experience
Be able to use your initiative to solve problems
Be flexible to meet customer requirements and the business needs
How do these roles fit within the Group?
Our Power Distribution business owns and operates two electricity distribution networks, comprising some 61,000 substations and 124,000 kilometres of underground cables and overhead lines. Our key responsibilities include maintaining safe and reliable supplies of electricity, and restoring supplies as quickly as possible following interruptions.

We have a number of vacancies across the north of Scotland and central southern England.
What salary and benefits would I receive?
You can expect a starting salary of circa £14,000 - £15,000. This increases as your training progresses and you attain various authorisations and qualifications.
